Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman is facing another dispute with Chadwick Boseman’s family as she works on a documentary honoring the late Black Panther star. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Boseman’s widow says disagreements with his relatives have complicated efforts to move the project forward.
Simone said she has been working with production company Words + Pictures on the documentary and is currently pursuing an offer from Searchlight Pictures to produce the film.
Boseman Family Disagrees Over Documentary Arrangements
According to Simone’s court filing, the proposed deal would operate under a “Most Favored Nation” arrangement, which would provide equal treatment to the relevant family parties. She claims both sides of Chadwick Boseman’s family were given identical paperwork as part of the process.
Simone alleges that some of Boseman’s family members nevertheless asked Words + Pictures for separate agreements. She characterized the situation as another example of what she describes as her efforts to work with the Boseman family while managing Chadwick’s legacy.
The dispute comes amid a separate legal disagreement concerning control of Boseman’s estate. His brothers have previously sought to remove Simone as administrator, alleging a lack of transparency regarding the estate’s finances. Simone has denied those allegations and maintains that she has acted in the family’s interests.
Simone also stated in court documents that she retained “100% right to control and benefit from Chadwick’s name, image, voice, signature, likeness etc.” She says she has consistently attempted to consult Boseman’s relatives about projects and activities connected to his legacy.
The latest disagreement adds another layer to the ongoing legal conflict surrounding Boseman’s estate and how his legacy should be managed. The actor died in August 2020 at age 43 after privately battling colon cancer.
The documentary remains in development, and the reported Searchlight Pictures arrangement has not been finalized based on the information currently available.
