Christa Pike reportedly refused her final meal before her October 2026 execution attempt and asked that the $20 allocated for the meal instead be used to purchase pizza for homeless people.
The request came shortly before Pike’s execution was halted after two attempts to administer lethal injections failed. During the procedure, Pike reportedly complained of severe pain in her arm before losing consciousness. She was later taken to a hospital, where her attorneys said she remained unconscious and required a ventilator.
Pike’s Last Meal Request Came Before Failed Execution
According to TMZ, Pike was offered the opportunity to select a final meal but declined the food for herself. Instead, she asked officials to use the allotted money to provide pizza to people experiencing homelessness.
The unusual request came as Tennessee carried out an execution that ultimately failed. After the two lethal-injection attempts, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee halted the state’s remaining scheduled execution for the year while an independent review examines what went wrong.

Pike’s case has drawn further attention because of questions surrounding her medical condition and the failed administration of the drugs.
Dr. Joel Zivot, who examined Pike, discussed the situation during TMZ’s In The Know series. He suggested that Pike’s thrombocytosis diagnosis could have played a role in the failed execution.
According to Zivot, elevated platelet levels may have contributed to a clot that interfered with the distribution of pentobarbital through her body. The explanation remains a medical possibility rather than a confirmed finding, with Tennessee’s review expected to determine what caused the procedure to fail.
