D4vd allegedly promised to help a fellow inmate secure $1,000 in bail before later backing away from the payment after speaking with his lawyers, according to documents obtained by TMZ. The singer reportedly exchanged letters with the incarcerated man while both were being held at the same Los Angeles facility.
According to TMZ, the inmate worked as a trustee at the jail and met D4vd while serving food. The two reportedly became friendly, even creating an inside joke involving a jingle they sang back and forth. The inmate allegedly needed the money to secure his release so he could be with his brother, who was preparing for surgery.
What D4vd Allegedly Wrote in His Jail Letters
The letters reportedly had a strong religious focus, with D4vd encouraging the inmate to maintain his faith during a difficult period. One letter referenced Isaiah 41:10, a Bible passage about finding strength and reassurance through God, while D4vd also reportedly said he was praying for the inmate and his family.
In another letter, D4vd allegedly explained that he had spoken with his attorneys about the promised payment. According to TMZ’s report, his legal team did not want him giving money to the inmate, leaving the singer apparently unable or unwilling to follow through on the $1,000 offer.
The correspondence comes as D4vd remains jailed without bail while facing charges connected to the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas. He has pleaded not guilty, and a judge previously determined that the case should proceed to trial.
D4vd’s legal situation has also changed significantly in recent days. His private attorneys, including Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter, withdrew after the court determined he qualified for appointed counsel, with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office taking over his defense.
TMZ subsequently reported that D4vd’s family had also been involved in financial moves, including the sale of a Texas property and a $138,000 loan taken against another property.
The latest letters provide another look into D4vd’s circumstances while he remains in custody ahead of the next stage of his criminal case.
