Former NBA player and 1994 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Isaiah Rider has been taken back into custody in Arizona after being found guilty of failing to comply with a court order. The latest development comes just months after the former guard faced multiple arrests connected to a protective order involving his estranged wife.
According to Maricopa County jail records, Rider was arrested on Thursday night and booked into custody on Friday on a misdemeanor charge of failing to comply with a court order. The records indicate he was found guilty and is expected to remain in custody until Tuesday.
The arrest follows two previous incidents reported late last year. According to TMZ Sports, Rider was first arrested in December for allegedly violating a protective order obtained by his estranged wife, Vanessa. Days later, he was arrested again after failing to appear at a court hearing regarding the order, which was subsequently extended by a judge.
Rider previously denied the allegations, claiming the protective order was sought because he had initiated divorce proceedings. Vanessa, however, maintained that the order was intended to protect both herself and their child.
Rider enjoyed a lengthy NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets. Known for his athleticism, he won the 1994 NBA Slam Dunk Contest and played more than a decade in the league.
