Former NFL offensive guard Jordan Devey, a member of the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX-winning team, has died at the age of 38. His family confirmed that Devey died by suicide, sharing the news on what would have been his 15th wedding anniversary.
Devey’s wife, Linsey Devey, announced his passing in a heartfelt social media post, writing that their four children carry his
“eyes, freckles, and compassion.”
She also shared one of his final messages to her:
“You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, ‘we’ll talk soon.'”
According to TMZ, a GoFundMe page created by the family described Devey as someone deeply committed to serving others through coaching youth sports and mentoring local high school athletes.
During his seven-year NFL career, Devey appeared in 44 games for the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and Buffalo Bills before retiring in 2021.
Following his death, Devey’s parents told Fox 13 they believe he may have been affected by chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition associated with repeated head trauma. They also urged greater awareness of mental health challenges facing former athletes.
