Harvey Weinstein has reportedly been hospitalized after suffering heart failure while in custody at New York City’s Rikers Island jail complex.

According to TMZ, the former film producer experienced a medical emergency roughly two weeks ago after developing pneumonia, prompting authorities to transfer him to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan.

TMZ, citing sources with direct knowledge of the situation, reported that Weinstein struggled to breathe before being rushed to the hospital. Doctors have reportedly placed him on intravenous medication, connected him to a heart monitor, and started antibiotic treatment to combat pneumonia. While his condition has improved, the report states that he continues to receive medical supervision and has not fully recovered.

The latest hospitalization follows a series of health issues that have affected Weinstein during his incarceration. Over the past two years, he has repeatedly been transferred to Bellevue Hospital for treatment related to multiple medical conditions, including COVID-19, double pneumonia, and emergency heart surgery.

Legal proceedings continue despite health concerns

Weinstein is currently being held while awaiting sentencing in September following his 2025 sexual assault conviction. His legal troubles have continued even after the New York Court of Appeals overturned his landmark 2020 conviction, ruling that errors during the original trial warranted a retrial. He was subsequently convicted again in 2025.

Separately, Weinstein continues to face a 16-year prison sentence stemming from his 2022 rape conviction in Los Angeles. Throughout the legal proceedings, he has consistently denied engaging in any non-consensual sexual acts.

The former Miramax co-founder became one of the central figures behind the global #MeToo movement after dozens of women publicly accused him of sexual misconduct. His prosecutions marked one of the movement’s most significant legal milestones and reshaped discussions around accountability within the entertainment industry.
