OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s sister, Ann Altman, has asked a court to dismiss the defamation claims he brought against her, according to court documents reported by TMZ.
The filing is the latest development in a long-running legal dispute between the siblings involving allegations of sexual abuse dating back to their childhood.
Ann Altman Challenges Sam Altman’s Defamation Claims
According to TMZ, Ann denies that her statements about alleged abuse constitute defamation. She also disputes how Sam has characterized her during the legal dispute, arguing that those descriptions were intended to discredit her claims.
Ann has alleged that she experienced abuse beginning when she was a child and has said the alleged experiences contributed to PTSD. Sam Altman has repeatedly denied the allegations and has maintained that the accusations are false.
The legal dispute has involved claims and counterclaims from both siblings. In March 2026, a federal judge dismissed Ann’s initial common-law claims as untimely but allowed her an opportunity to pursue the matter under Missouri’s child sexual abuse statute. The same ruling allowed much of Sam’s counterclaims, including defamation allegations, to continue.
Ann’s latest filing seeks to have Sam’s counterclaims against her dismissed. She has also disputed his characterization of her mental health and denied that he currently provides her with regular financial support, while acknowledging that he provided financial assistance years earlier.
Neither side’s allegations have been established as fact by a final judgment. Sam Altman continues to deny wrongdoing, while Ann maintains that her allegations are truthful. The latest court filing therefore represents another stage in the ongoing legal battle rather than a final determination of the underlying allegations.
