Former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green has publicly revealed that he is battling early-onset Parkinson’s disease, more than a year after receiving his official diagnosis.
Speaking on the Go Long with Tyler Dunne podcast, Green said he was officially diagnosed in January 2025, although he had noticed symptoms well before then. He recalled experiencing twitching in his feet while sleeping and sensing that something was wrong.
“I knew something was going on long before [the official diagnosis],”
Green said.
The 49-year-old also shared that the condition has affected his short-term memory, making it difficult to remember names. Green initially kept the diagnosis private, informing only close family members and friends before deciding to speak publicly.
Despite the challenges, the former NFL star emphasized that he remains determined to stay positive.
“I got the reins. I’m in control. I’m not going to let this control me.”
Green remains the Packers’ all-time leading rusher with 8,322 rushing yards and earned four Pro Bowl selections during his NFL career. His announcement comes less than two years after former Packers quarterback Brett Favre also disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
